Steps for changing web hosting companies

Web hosting is arguably the most important aspect of any online presence, and that’s why it’s always important to choose a web hosting company that is reliable and offers all the features you need to keep your website booming. No matter how deep you look into the matter, no matter how much research you do before initially choosing your web hosting company, problems may inexplicably arise that force you into the position of either staying with your current host under unfavorable conditions or taking your domain to another service provider.

There are plenty of reasons why someone may want or need to switch their hosting company, many more than we have time to go into right now. Two of the main reasons though are that either the service quality has dropped to unacceptable levels, or the website is at a point where the hosting company just can’t provide all the features or bandwidth needed to continue to grow. For whatever reason you need to switch, there are a few steps to follow to ensure that it is done correctly.

First, choose the new host, and this time makes sure that it can offer you everything you need. Also, you may want to make a list of features that your site may need in the future, so you don’t have to go through the whole process all over again. Do research into the company’s available infrastructure, the customer support center, and the ability that you will have to scale. Lastly, look for reviews to see what their reputation is among other website owners.

Second, backup all your data and files. Even if you have the option to automatically transfer the files over to your new host, you always want to have a backup in the event of a mishap.

Next, you want to transfer all your data to the new server and make sure everything is working properly. At this point you will want to inform your visitors that you will be moving and the old site will no longer exist. Sent out an auto message to everyone on your mailing list, and post a message on the website itself to let people know why the site will be down for a little while.

Once you have everything set up on the new hosting server, leave the old one up for a few days just to make sure you have all the mail that people are sending to your old address. In order to find out more on and similar website and webmaster related guides, check out .
